Inspired by intuition, that little voice in our head…or is it our gut?
Details:
16″ x 20″
Archival giclée print on cold press watercolor paper
Description:
The gut has long been referred to as the “second brain” because of its complex nervous system and ability to communicate back and forth with the brain through nerves, hormones, microorganisms, and immune molecules. This network allows the gut to influence brain function and vice versa. There are between 200 and 600 million neurons in the human Enteric Nervous System, which is equal to the number of neurons in the spinal cord. The discovery of the gut-brain axis has raised questions regarding intuition. Can the gut-brain axis explain the concept of a “gut feeling” affecting human behavior and decision making?
