I wanted to capture the lungs in a way that reflects their full potential. Typically, we see them enclosed by the pleural cavity, which is how they exist in our bodies, but to an artist who loves to abstract anatomy, it feels inaccurate. My goal was to depict the lungs free from that space—without any restriction because they are more than just an organ, the lungs are our connection to spirit, to mindfulness, and to peace. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about them, is how we can learn to build a relationship with our lungs, to add purpose to our breath.
